Every woman should have a statement coat

December 5, 2008

I love statement clothing - pieces that are so full of style and personality that all eyes turn towards you when you enter a room.  Here are some of my favorite pieces this winter:

The Marne Trench

Bold jewel-toned color is what makes this a statement coat.  I’m also loving the stand-up collar, although it does necessitate wearing a scarf if the wind starts to blow.  The Marne holds a special place in my heart because it’s my signature color, teal.  The bold color and 3/4 length sleeves make it trendy, but the trench style is classic enough to be in fashion year after year.

The Little Plaid Riding Hood Coat

Part femme Sherlock Holmes, part “meet you at the hunting lodge,” this fabulous coat is perfect for fall to early winter weather.  (You could even wear it in early spring.  It’s pretty versatile.)  It has a hood, although I think it’s more for show than for function.  This coat is perfect for work or play.  Moreover, this coat proves that style can be conservative without being boring.

The Green Light Go Coat

This bold kelly green coat is a quick way to brighten up a dreary winter day!  With a military-inspired look, the Green Light Go coat keeps it super-simple with a matching belt and hidden snap closures.  Pair this bad boy with some black boots and you’ll be hot to trot.

All of these coats are available from ModCloth.
