Highly recommended: Have a 5-star pet sitting service on speed dial

December 8, 2008

Sometimes being sociable requires traveling, especially during the holiday season and sometimes with extremely short notice.  Regardless of the reason, travel requires leaving the office staff behind.

The Office Staff

What’s a socially savvy pet owner to do?  He or she must have the right connections - connections preferably already programmed into their speed dial.

Who’s on our speed dial?  Cubbie’s Bone.  Owner/operator Alexis Salazar is a true professional who clearly enjoys and excels at what she does.  Our office staff is very persnickety when it comes to strangers, but they warmed right up to Alexis.  Alexis came highly recommended by her references, and her company is fully bonded and insured.  If you need pet sitting services in the Houston area, Cubbie’s Bone gets 5 stars for professionalism, service, and value.

So what should you look for in a pet sitter?

  • First, start looking for a pet sitting service well in advance of your trip.  You should check out a minimum of 2 pet sitting services.
  • Ask friends and coworkers for referrals.  Who do they use?  And what do they think about that service?
  • Is the service a member of the professional organization Pet Sitters International?
  • Get references - at least 3, and actually call them.
  • Conduct an interview in-person, in-home.  Does the pet sitter establish a positive rapport with your pets?  (Cubbie’s Bone was the second pet sitting service we interviewed.  The first interview didn’t go well; the office staff voted “NO” unanimously.)
  • Is the pet sitting service bonded and insured?  If something does go wrong on their watch, make sure you’re covered for any loss or damage.

Pet Sitters International offers a thorough checklist on what to ask when interviewing a pet sitter.
