Rest in peace?

I have sad news to report.

I just found my Motorola bluetooth earpiece in the washing machine.

I hadn’t seen it in at least 6 months.  I have no idea how it made it into the upstairs closet since I normally kept it in the pocket of my car door.

I’m going to let the earpiece dry out for a few days, then see if it works.  I’m not optimistic.  I thought about putting it in the dryer, but I figured it might fry the circuitry - you know, if the water damage … and fabric softener didn’t kill it first.  We shall see.

Anyone have experience with this?

Highly disappointing: Pet peeves about RWM (reading while mobile)

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Part of the reason why I finally broke down and bought a smartphone last summer is because I like to read the news while on the go.  I go to the mobile news sites - first stop is usually the Huffington Post - choose an article and start reading. That is, until I have to stop reading because I’ve hit the bottom of the screen and there’s another page, or maybe 3 or 4 or 5 more pages.

These days, just about every news site worth reading has a “Read Full Article” link, but it’s located at the bottom of the first page.  Why don’t the news services put the link at the top of the page?  This way, as soon as the article loads, I can say, “Ah, there are multiple pages. I would like to read them all at once without stopping to go to a new page every 3 paragraphs.”

But, no.  Here’s what happens instead:

Welcome to Social Tools. It’s a pleasure to meet you.

Monday, December 1, 2008

Hi. I’m Kendall, designer/owner of Hi, Society! Design Studio. Welcome to Social Tools for the Socially Inclined, or “Social Tools” for short. What’s a social tool, you ask?  Social tools are the devices and strategies we use to interact with people and navigate the world in which we live.

The social tools you use speak volumes about your personal style and attitude about life.  They’re what you use and do to help make life the best it can be.

So what can you expect to find here?  Well, I’ll tell ya:

  • Updates about Hi, Society! (especially when we launch new designs and products);
  • Nifty tidbits about people, places, and things I run across in travels both local and far-flung;
  • Tips to operate better in our [un]civilized society;
  • and mentions about noteworthy design and fashion.

I’ll also write about the good things in life, like 5-star food and service (especially if it doesn’t carry a 5-star price tag).

I look forward to hearing from you about Social Tools and everything you find here.  Don’t be shy.  Be sociable.

Cheers -
Kendall
