eBay obsession: Vintage brooches

Friday, January 30, 2009

Attention, ladies!  Brooches are not just for your grandmother anymore.  They’re perfect to add some sparkle to a sweater, coat, or even a tote bag.

I’ve bought several cute brooches on eBay over the past year or so.  Here are 4 fashion finds that I love and that you just might love, too.  (more…)

Dude, what gives? An examination of the hoot-n-holler phenomenon

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

My friend Quincy and I were walking around in Hoboken, headed to Starbucks in order to warm up from the bitterly bitter cold.  My feet were blocks of ice (note to self: cute pumps + freezing temperatures = suck), and the tops of my thighs were going numb despite the protection of my long wool coat.

So we’re standing on a corner, waiting for the light to change so we can cross, when suddenly a car full of guys honks at us.  Okay, well, at me.  What the hell?

Dude. STOP.  (more…)

What does one do with 3,669 unread emails?

Monday, January 26, 2009

This seems to be an inordinate number of unread emails, and these emails all sit unread in my inbox.  I told myself that I would clean the cobwebs out of my inbox and start fresh for 2009, but that hasn’t happened yet.  I find myself holding on for some reason.

Updates: Accountability and rehashing the past

Friday, January 23, 2009

I said I’d have my website up by January 23rd - which would be today.  Here’s the update: It’s not up yet.  But it’s okay - sometimes you have to revise your plans a bit.  What’s most important is that the site is finally well under construction after months of putting it off, and it should be finished soon…ish.  I want to have it finished before January is out.  Gotta admit, I’m excited.

As for rehashing the past, my trip to Charleston was fabulous.  It was so wonderful to see my mom and to see friends from high school that I hadn’t seen in several years.  My friend, the bride, looked gorgeous, and I’m so happy for her and her new hubby.

The best thing about our friendships is that sense of shared history.  You can turn to that friend and say, “Remember that time when … ?” and the other person knows exactly what you’re talking about because they were there, living that moment right along with you.

Life is good.

Tool Academy: You have got to be kidding me.

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

My guilty pleasure is reality television shows on VH1.  Flavor of Love, I Love New York, Rock of Love, Charm School, I Love Money, Confessions of a Teen Idol, Scott Baio, and all the various spin-offs… I watch all of it.  (Okay, so I didn’t watch Scream Queens, and I only kinda-sorta watched Miss Rap Supreme but just as background noise while doing other things.)

The latest addition to VH1’s reality show compendium is “Tool Academy.”  The basis of the show is that girlfriends secretly signed their jerk boyfriends up for “relationship camp.”

Here are some of the things the girlfriends have said about their boyfriends in the premiere episode interviews (emphasis is mine):  (more…)
