From the road: My mother’s hair is purple and other fashion disasters
January 14, 2009It’s great to see my mom. This is the first I’ve seen her in about 15 months.
Her hair is purple. It’s not supposed to be.
Truth be told, I’m exaggerating just a touch. Her hair is not completely purple. It has purple streaks in it - a dye experiment that had unexpected results.
She and I have long had issues with her hair. I want her to get a cut, appropriately styled for her personality and her age. She often talks of going for the gusto, getting that long overdue cut and style. She’s been telling me “I’ve been looking at styles - I’m still thinking about what I want” for about 10 years now.
My mom has been described as “a stone cold fox, except for her glasses.” We remedied the glasses issue this afternoon. I helped her pick out some new frames that accentuate her face instead of hide it. One day I’ll have to post a picture of the ginormous glasses that both she and my father used to wear. Suffice to say, not every part of 80’s fashion should be revived, and those huge glasses are at the top of the list.
So, I’m still working on her. Maybe I can get her to commit to a cut and style while I’m visiting this week.
I said maybe.
