I'm lucky enough to have traveled w/ my mom's 1960s American Tourister Tiara luggage and although it's heavy, it can take quite the beating. I've sat on it to get it closed when I've filled it with books and I never worry about how the handlers toss it around. A totally chic and worthwhile investment

Re-read above: It's a good thing.

I'm lucky to have people in my life who care about what I'm doing, how I'm doing it, and when I'm getting it done.

So, thank you. :)

This was interesting to read. So true though that you never know where life is going to take you to meet the individuals that are in your life today. I almost forgot that you literally lived right across from me and especially at such a "diverse" university (hey did we ever discuss the "new" Ms. Mason at Homecoming?) you would think the "coloreds" would speak to each other more often and more in depth. Regardless, although you may 2 or 300 miles away you are always there when you need to be and I hope I am the same for you. Thanks my friend.

Hmmmm.... for the record, I believe we have more differences than similarities. We have the common similarities: black, women, tall, outgoing, beautiful need I go on? But we have some GREAT differences that are close to polar opposite. You're athletic... I might run in the rain IF I don't have an umbrella. You are in tune with your creativity, I am REALLY close to square (its okay for me to say it). You are from all over the US... I am from Texas. I could go on, but it is safe to say that I find them completely refreshing. I miss ya!

First off, NO that is NOT a responsible plan for raising a family! Her friends and family did not get a vote on Ms. Suleman bringing 14 children into this world (BY CHOICE) and she cannot not reasonably believe that these people will want to be responsible for helping her raise them either.

There are so many people that are in the wrong here. Ms. Suleman, Her Mother, The hack they are calling a Fertility Doctor....

It is morally reprehensible for any fertility doctor to transfer (not implant...Embryos that are transferred, implant in the uterus days after a transfer) that many embryos into any woman, period! As someone who has looked into numerous fertility treatments, read dozens of books on the subject, and yes...even joined a message board or two.... No good and well respected doctor would transfer that many embryos into a woman who has had live births before.

The validity of the clinic Octo-Mom frequented is of major question. This site shows their statistics (https://www.sartcorsonline.com/rptCSR_PublicMultYear.aspx?ClinicPKID=2400). Let's put it this way, the numbers are so bad that I would take my chances with a turkey baster.

Anyway, I don't believe the government should be able to dictate who has kids, who doesn't (unless there is good reason and a judge says so) or how many you can have. However, I do believe that if you are bringing life into this world, you should be able to take care of them by YOURSELF, without any help (other than your significant other). Yes people fall on hard time and need assistance. This woman put her self in that position knowing full well she would never be able to afford them (masters degree or not) on her own. She banked on these kids being a circus attraction even before they were born.

The real victims in this whole tragedy are all 14 children.

It is morally reprehensible for any fertility doctor to transfer (not implant…Embryos that are transferred, implant in the uterus days after a transfer) that many embryos into any woman, period! As someone who has looked into numerous fertility treatments, read dozens of books on the subject, and yes…even joined a message board or two….

Let’s put it this way, the numbers are so bad that I would take my chances with a turkey baster.

Anyway, I don’t believe the government should be able to dictate who has kids, who doesn’t (unless there is good reason and a judge says so) or how many you can have.

The real victims in this whole tragedy are all 14 children.

tune in with yourself closer to the event time. Some things I ask are:
who's gonna be there?
do I have the energy to invest?
am I rested and nourished enough to have extra for others?
at first glance, does it feel REALLY good to say YES?

You'll know just what to do and when to do it:)

Showing up is reeeeally hard sometimes, Dyana. A fellow CFCer is hosting a party at a lounge in NYC in a couple of weeks and while it'd be great to see him and meet some new folks, I'm really struggling about whether or not to go. It's so far away. Other factors, too.

I'll keep your advice (and possibly my own?) in mind and try to convince myself to attend.

So, GO, people--show up for your people--there's GOLD out there!

I almost didn't meet my best friend either! I met him in Gospel Choir, and a week later He saw me passed out drunk in the middle of a party. instead of judging me, he helped me get home. We've been close ever since... wow how the times pass. I see him once every few months. Distance and friendship suck!

I can honestly say I haven't commited this act of stupidity. I do have boys that have, and most of them in relationships. I retrospect I guess they did it most of the time to be just silly, come to think of it everytime I have been around guys that did it it was to be just plain silly and just crackin' up having a good time. I am not making excuses for their actions, just giving one explanation that I have come to.

Are we talking Gmail, here? Gmail lets you see 100 emails at a time, and select all unread with one click. A quick scroll-through will tell you if you're missing anything important, then with one more click, you can mark as read.

Good luck!

One thing I did was archive my Daily Candy emails and create a folder for them. Now I'm just trying to decide to with the remaining 3,075 emails in my inbox.

The thought of scrolling through 799 pages of emails to mark them as read doesn't sound so hot. :( Perhaps more archiving with labels and folders?

Hi, Kendall! I've been enjoying your blog. Unread emails really bother me, too, so I always click "select unread=>mark as read" after I've read the important stuff and before I go on about my business. Pat, on the other hand, has an unread email total rivaling yours. It drives me nuts.

If I were you (or if I were allowed to putz around in Pat's email), I'd go through page by page and mass select all the unread ones, marking them as read. If you actually scroll through before marking as read, you can be sure that you're not missing anything important (but you probably got the important stuff on the first pass anyway).

I don't mind letting extraneous emails just sit there, as long as they're not "unread." When they're in bold type, with a big number, I feel like I ought to read them, which would be a huge drain on my time! I can ignore them once I've marked them as read. :)

Good luck!

Q, I think there are self-esteem issues are on the women's side, definitely. I think it's also a victim mentality - "he's mistreating me - change him" - when the reality is that they're allowing themselves to be mistreated because they stay with these jerks.

But do you really think it's low self-esteem for the guys? I think it's more selfishness than anything.

Any other men feeling brave enough to chime in on this?

The men have low self-esteem and they prey on women with low self-esteem, as well. The men need a woman who makes them feel more powerful because they can't handle a woman who can stand for her own. What better to feed that need than a woman who will settle for anything.

...but you're smart, so I'm sure you know all this already ;)

YES, Kendall: you got it right. Sometimes the simple act of leaning out over that cliff (with safety equipment: like a mentor, board of advisors and your own strengths) is the ONLY thing you need to do. Just LEAN.

Check out my videos, if you are so inclined, on getting going and keeping it up on: http://www.youtube.com/dyanavalentine. Or, post your OWN if you have great ideas for how we can all get out of our own ways.
