Slow and steady wins the race

Thursday, April 9, 2009

So - ages ago, I mentioned how I do graphic design for clients apart from Hi, Society!  And I talked about how I didn’t publicize that too much because I didn’t have a website up for it.  But that was then.

Now, I’m pleased as punch to announce that the website for my design company - Element K Creative - is finally finished and live.  It took 4 months of planning, thinking about those plans, designing, thinking about those designs, getting constructive feedback from colleagues (thank you!), revisions, revisions, revisions, and execution, but it’s finally a reality.  And I couldn’t be more happy about it.  Check it out at http://www.elementkcreative.com.

Meanwhile, I’ve got several projects on the burners, including several new card designs for Hi, Society! Design Studio.  I’ll spill more details as we get closer to finalizing a release date.  And ummm… by “we,” I mean “me!”

Cheers!

Updates: Accountability and rehashing the past

Friday, January 23, 2009

I said I’d have my website up by January 23rd - which would be today.  Here’s the update: It’s not up yet.  But it’s okay - sometimes you have to revise your plans a bit.  What’s most important is that the site is finally well under construction after months of putting it off, and it should be finished soon…ish.  I want to have it finished before January is out.  Gotta admit, I’m excited.

As for rehashing the past, my trip to Charleston was fabulous.  It was so wonderful to see my mom and to see friends from high school that I hadn’t seen in several years.  My friend, the bride, looked gorgeous, and I’m so happy for her and her new hubby.

The best thing about our friendships is that sense of shared history.  You can turn to that friend and say, “Remember that time when … ?” and the other person knows exactly what you’re talking about because they were there, living that moment right along with you.

Life is good.

Using my network to help me get things done

You probably don’t know that in addition to Hi, Society!, I have a design company - Element K Creative.  That’s probably because Element K doesn’t have a website.

Yet.

I’ve been able to put Element K’s website off this long because projects come in pretty steadily by referral, which is always great, plus I took a little time off to launch Hi, Society! Design Studio.  I was busy and kept saying, “I have sooo many projects to do that I don’t have time to design my own website.”

Excuses.  (And some of you know what excuses are.)  (more…)
